Symphony Ball

“This year’s ball seemed a little more festive than usual […] Perhaps it was the invitation,
a red-and-gilt confection so
alluring that box seats for the evening ($2,500 per person)
sold out quickly.”
—Crain’s, Chicago Business

Symphony Ball is Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s largest annual fundraiser. The objective was to create an invitation
that would communicate the grand old world elegance the attendee would experience. The evening featured a celebratory
concert by Riccardo Muti and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra playing tribute to the italian composer, Verdi. The evening
continued with an extravagant gala at Chicago’s historic Palmer House. While concepting for the piece, the interior of the
Palmer House, Italian typography and Italian papers informed design decisions.

The designer used a vast array of printing techniques and design choices: gold engraving, burnishing, lined envelopes,
shimmer A9 Euro flap envelope, custom stamps, beveled edges, Crane’s 220lb Lettra stock, gold vellum and a custom folder
created to hold the materials.
